Why 710 stands for extract culture
In international cannabis culture, 710 is associated with oils and concentrates. Turn the number upside down and it resembles the word “OIL”. What began as scene shorthand became a cultural marker for extraction craftsmanship, terpene profiles, glass culture and specialised events.
That does not mean every 710 format is about consumption. For brands and organisers, the relevant themes include sensory education, product design, technology, art, culinary aroma worlds and international community culture.
Resin and rosin are not the same
The similar names often cause confusion.
Resin is the sticky plant material associated with trichomes and their aromatic compounds. In commercial extract terminology, names containing “resin” may describe products created with solvent-based processes.
Rosin generally describes a concentrate made through pressure and heat without chemical solvents. The term is therefore closely associated with solventless craftsmanship. The exact quality depends on the starting material, process control and storage.
This article intentionally provides cultural and marketing context rather than production instructions.
Terpenes as a language of aroma
Terpenes are aromatic compounds found across many plants. Citrus peel, pine needles, herbs and flowers all offer familiar reference points. In a responsible event context, these legal botanical aromas can create an accessible sensory vocabulary without making medical or efficacy claims.
For brands, this creates a creative field spanning packaging, content, menu concepts, design systems, music and curated hospitality. The strongest ideas make aroma understandable without reducing the culture to clichés.
710 events in Germany: culture meets regulation
German law places strict limits on cannabis handling and extraction. Section 2 of the Cannabis Act generally prohibits extracting cannabinoids from the cannabis plant, subject to defined exceptions such as CBD extraction and analytical purposes.
For event organisers, this means concepts need to be checked individually. Venue rules, youth protection, advertising restrictions, food law, liability and the exact role of participating brands all matter. A US event concept cannot simply be copied into the German market.
Responsible formats can instead focus on:
- education about aroma, product culture and international market trends,
- legal botanical and culinary sensory experiences,
- craftsmanship, packaging, glass and design,
- moderated B2B conversations,
- art, music and community storytelling,
- compliant content production and brand partnerships.
